Is this the best that Labour can do?

We were listening to Question Time yesterday afternoon. Maryan Street asked question #5 to the Minister of Civil Defence, John Carter. The primary question was innocuous enough:

What is the basis for according priority to entry of the red zone in the Christchurch central business district?

A supplementary, along similar lines followed, then Ms Street asked another supplementary question; it starts at around 0.45 on the video below:

In case you missed it, here is the text of Maryan Street's question:

Hon Maryan Street: How many business owners could have been given access to equipment and records that are vital to restarting their businesses, if time and resources had not been diverted to escorting the Prime Minister through the red zone on repeated occasions?

We'll leave it up to you to judge for yourself the quality of Maryan Street's question. We were shocked that Ms Street was prepared to politicise the Christchurch earthquake and the government's response in such a manner. Imagine the outrage and hubris from Labour if John Key HADN'T been making repeated visits to Christchurch to assess the situation and to lead the government's response to the worst natural disaster since the Napier earthquake of 80 years ago.

And as an aside, a Facebook friend who is a member of the MSM commented to us:

Phil Goff was also being escorted around the cordoned area while I was up there working in the media pack.

It's little wonder that Labour is so far behind in the opinion polls if this is the best that the once-proud party can muster. As regular commenter Robert Guyton would probably say, Maryan Street's attempt to slur the PM yesterday was "petty, petty, petty", and for once, we would have no argument with him.

What about that private visit by some blokess who works for the UN?

It must be very frustrating for people whose homes and businesses are in the red zone.

But there's a difference between having a look at the damage to make an assessment and entering buildings which could collapse.

As you and FM point out it's not just MPs from the government and current parliament who have been shown around.

Mayanne Street could move to Wellington, where she works, and save us all the cost of transporting her and her partner back and forwards from her holiday home in Nelson.

That'd more than pay for the PM to do his job and make frequent visits to the disaster zone.

You obviously took a pasting on your support for politicising the quake yesterday INV2. It stands to reason that you'd scrounge around for some deflection. When you admit you're as bad as you think Maryan is for her comments, then you'll have credibility. Until then you remain a phony.

Isn't it amazing how after years and years of shafting them any way they could think of it the wannabe-commies are now sticking up for business owners?

A pasting? From the combined might of yourself and Robert Guyton? I think not.

You've clung to your delusion as tightly as expected Inv2. Don't forget, God was on my side yesterday and not on yours.
Give that some thought.

Those who are being shown the damage inside the red zone are not at risk of injury, nor are the people showing them the damage.
Those who have had a critical need to enter damaged buildings, for example lawyers retrieving Wills and legal documents (think about it), have been escorted by certified structural engineers who have given them step-by-step instructions as to where they may venture, and where they may not.
There is a significant difference in the resources required for each situation.

Excellent comment Kurt. I have family who live at the Arts Centre. A few days after the 'quake, they were escorted into their apartment, and they had just a few minutes to take what they could; how do you decide what is most precious from a lifetime's accumulation?

The pasting came not via anyone else but from within yourself. All readers have seen the fraud. You are as credible as those you attempt to slur. Up to you what level of credible that is...
