It's Friday, but once again, sport is not at the forefront of our minds today. There are a few interesting contests over the weekend though, so here goes.
The Black Caps simply MUST beat Zimbabwe tonight in Ahmedabad. Three wins will take them through to the quarter-finals, and after that, anything is possible. If the Black Caps were to lose tonight, they would then have to beat either Sri Lanka or Pakistan in their remaining group games (assuming that they will account for Canada), and that would be a big ask in sub-continent conditions. With Jacob Oram and Kyle Mills likely to return tonight (why was Oram dropped against Australia?), this is probably their strongest and most experienced line-up. Cricinfo has the preview.
And emotions will run high when the Crusaders take on the Waratahs in Nelson tonight. We reckon that the frustrations and upheaval of the last ten days will have the Crusaders absolutely fizzing, and the Waratahs might just bear the backlash of that; this one is a must-watch, so thank goodness for MySky!
That's it for us this morning; feel free to discuss any sporting matter that takes your fancy. The floor is, as ever, yours ...
UPDATE: Some excellent and most welcome news; New Zealand has been awarded hosting rights to FIFA's second-biggest tournament; the 2015 U20 World Cup. That will be another big fillip for football here.

The way things are going I'm going to put money on the Zimbos.
Sad but true.
Go the Highlanders.
Mills will probably go okay against Zimbabwe but he would not be in my top X1. Lets bat Oram at 5 - his true position in this team.
Good news about Laws.
With respect Robert, sod off! This is a weekly sporting post, so your attempt to turn it into an anti-Michael Laws post is not appreciated. I will be addressing that issue later in the day, and you might be surprised by what I have to offer.
In the meantime, please leave this post for those of us who enjoy sport to enjoy some discourse.
What would the world be without your incisive wit and pithy commentaries Robert?
A far-duller place, that's for sure.
'Good news about Laws.'!
Priceless.
Those who are wondering what the heck this has to do with anything should have a look here, and note how Robert deals with his commenters:

I hope the Highlanders do well this weekend but the Bulls had a gritty comeback vs the Cheetahs at the weekend. In particular Fourie Du Preez is to South African rugby that Dan Carter is to the All Blacks. He's a game changer and I wonder how significant was his absence from the Tri Nations with injury last year on our results...
Trying to watch the cricket. bloody rain fade.
Well done the Highlanders! Made my Sunday, but could i find a replay!
