Good morning Christchurch!

The Canterbury alarm clock has gone off again. Canterbury Quake Live reports a 5.3 magnitude aftershock at 3.04am this morning. Centred out near Rolleston (to the west of the city) it was 14.37km deep, and released 1 kilo ton of energy.

That's a pretty significant quake in anyone's language, and in fact it's the ninth largest quake recorded since the inital earthquake on 4 September 2010.

We have a number of friends and wider family living in that area, and one family in particular who live farm very close to the epicentre of this jolt. Our thoughts and our prayers are with them all this morning as they ponder life after another disrupted night when the earth moved in a manner that they'd have preferred it hadn't.
