It's been another interesting weekend of sport with a few surprises, and a few moments to celebrate.
We've already lauded the performance of the NZ Breakers in winning the Australian NBL championship. But there's been some even better news for the Breakers since Friday night; the bulk of the current squad will front up again later in the year to defend the NBL title, and they'll take a power of beating; great stuff!
New Zealand teams had an average weekend in Super Rugby. The Blues, Crusaders and Hurricanes had wins; the Highlanders and Chiefs didn't. The Hurricanes in particular turned on a much-improved effort to upset the Reds. We can but hope that the latter part of the season is better than the first part for the 'Canes!
The Warriors are stringing together some good performances with four wins in their last five matches. They were again impressive on defence against Penrith yesterday, with the exception of the last ten minutes when the match was already safe. With the possible return of Manu Vatuvei this weekend, things are on the up for the Warriors.
Manchester United could have wrapped up the Premier League this morning, but the Mighty Arsenal caused The Scum to stumble. Arsenal's 1-0 win flattered Sir Alex's men, who will now be sweating on their match with Chelsea next weekend. Unfortunately, Arsenal's indifferent form over the last few matches has removed it from calculations, and it may be time for Arsene Wenger to move on.
And lastly, congratulations to the Northern Mystics, first time semi-finalists in the ANZ Netball Championship. With the Magic likely to finish second if they win tonight, it's great to have a strong New Zealand presence in the play-offs, with the World Champs so close.
That's how we saw the weekend; what say you?

Interesting that there was high praise for the Hurricanes midfield of Ngatai and Hayward particularly in the first half. The best backline performance of the season and guess who was absent.
the Chelsea "victory" was full of appalling decisions.
What has happened to James Stephenson - he seems to have been missing on these posts for a while.
Nothing nasty I hope.
