Apart from National list MP Cam Calder being outed as a devotee of Petanque (a far more civilised pursuit than planking!), we couldn't help but notice this paragraph:
Several MPs own or co-own holiday homes from the Coromandel to Queenstown to Hawaii, including National's John Key, Jackie Blue and Nicky Wagner and Labour's Steve Chadwick, Ruth Dyson, David Parker, Carol Beaumont and Sue Moroney.
Now let's be straight here; MP's generally work hard, and having holiday homes isn't a big deal per se. But isn't it interesting that Labour MP's constantly attack John Key over his wealth, especially for having a "mansion in Hawaii", and their lap-bloggers at The Standard leap to the dog-whistle of the politics of envy. But now we find that at least five Labour MP's have holiday homes of their own.
We don't begrudge them in the slightest. But we do reckon that it's just a wee bit of a double standard for Labour MP's to slag the PM off for living a lifestyle of luxury, then to slope off to their holiday homes "from the Coromandel to Queenstown" at the weekends and during holiday times. We should be grateful that the Register of Pecuniary Interests has alerted us to such a thing.

That's the way. Focus on the very stuff you criticise others for. Ignore the terrible job this government is doing with the economy. In 3 years National have worsened what they claim Labour took nine years to do. NZ is heading down the crapper with these gamblers at the helm.
Lisa go back to class and see if you can master comprehension, the thread of this post was as I comprehend it hypocrisy and double standards from arguably the leading paper in the country and who is entitled to have a holiday home / bolt hole while being an M.P.
I will warrant that many more M Ps have access to such a "bach" but the ownership structure does not come within the orbit of this bit of envy inspired list from the rubbish bureaucracy.
When Goff and his mob have us on a legislated massive rise in wages the price of these luxuries will skyrocket as demand outstrips supply when many more rich pricks join the club at the beach/lake/mountains/wherever.
Well said Gravedodger. As I said in the main post (twice, from memory), I have no problem at all with MP's owning holiday homes; they do a job that I wouldn't do for any amount of dollars, and if they can get away for a break, that's fine.
What I DO object to though is Labour MP's who own such alternate dwellings making political capital from John Key's holidays. That is simply hypocritical.
