As we said yesterday, there's no Monday Wrap today, but there have been a trio of sporting events overnight that demand a mention.
First-up, James Stephenson will doubtless have much more to say later, but well done Julian Dean; an member of the winning Garmin-Cervelo team in the team time trial at the Tour de France. It's just the second time in the long history of the TdF that a New Zealander has stop atop the dias with a stage victory, and although it was a team effort, Dean deserves the accolades; a great start to the race.
And well done to the women's Black Sticks; a 3-2 victory over Korea has given them the bronze medal at the Champions Trophy tournament; their best-ever result at this elite tournament, which brings the top eight teams in the world together. With the London Olympics just trwelve months ago, the team is shaping up as a definite medal possibility, having acquitted itself really well against the world's best. Congratulations to the team.
Lastly, we seem to be witnessing a changing of the guard in men's tennis. Novak Djokovic has won his second Grand Slam of the season with victory at Wimbledon, and in beating Rafael Nadal in the final, has taken the #1 world ranking. Djokovic has had an amazing season, with just one loss in 52 matches. Roger Federer seems no longer the great player he was, and Nadal may have reached his peak. The tennis world seems to be Novak Djokovic's oyster.

Djokovic has a tenuous New Zealand connection with at least one Aunt or Great Aunt among the Auckland Dalli community.
She was on a Lawn Bowls tour I managed to Australia about four years ago - there were four good friends on the trip and I cannot remember which one it was.
