GOFF HAS vulnerabilities, of course, and in his lounge at the farm he opened up about the time [remainder of the sentence deleted by us because it concerns a family member] .
He has always been fiercely protective of his family's privacy and was distraught that [remainder of the sentence deleted by us because it concerns a family member].
If there was ever a time he contemplated not staying on in politics, he says, that was it.
If you've always been "fiercely protective" of your family's privacy, why would you suddenly spend an entire Herald feature article talking to a reporter - about your family?
Oh; that's right. There's an election in a few weeks.

I'm stunned by your double standards.
"We do our best" Anon; we may not always succeed, but we try. Unlike you, who ignores the message and attacks the messenger.
I did hope Farmer Phil was setting a high Nanny State standard for us all by wearing a helmet whilst feeding out hay riding one of those evil farmer killing quad bikes.
Agree anon 9:29am By highlighting the family aspect, In2, you make your position worse Why not simply highlight there is a story about Goff. Learn from Kiwiblog. You come over as a sanctimonious, prick just as you did when Goff was in Greece a few months ago for a family occasion.
Fair call on the last comment Anon #2; the Greece one was an attempt a humour that fell flat, hence the "We do our best" comment.
Pony Club Phil
It's your blog- you don't need to let the commenters tell you how to run it!
im concerned that he is being identified as a farmer.20ac is a oversized lawn
They didn't show him hand in hand with Arafat, nor did they delve too deeply into his activities during the anti war protests in the '70's.
Pity that.
The "farm" definition possibly qualifies for tax deductible interest payments.

Thus telling the blog owner what to do.
Idiot.
anon @ 1:16
Is that you Village Idiot?
I agree with OB - it is your blog.
By the way most of Goff's family would be embarrassed enough since Goff took over as leader.
Careful pdm; keep the family out of it
Yeah, I agree with OB and pdm and anyone else who thinks it's your blog. It's definitely your blog!
You're doing your best Inv2 not to bring politician's families into your content GOOD ON YOU!
anonomong 1:16- 'You don't need to' is not the same as 'you should not'
Cretin.
You don't need to listen to Oswald's cretinous rantings Inv2!
The article is a pathetic attempt by the left leaning msm to give Goff and his socialists losers some cheap publicity to hopefully lift their deservedly appalling poll ratings. I just hope that the NZ public see through this and remember the 9 wasted years of the previous Labour administration.
I don't disagree Anon (5.19pm) - the fact that:
a) it's been published on the weekend on National's conference, and
b) it's been carefully choreographed (see the posts at The Standard and Red Alert saying what a good guy Goff is)
suggests that this is nothing more than a cynical attempt by the media team at The Goffice to give Phil some oxygen. That Goff himself has used his family when he claims that he is "fiercely protective of his family's privacy" only adds to the cynicism.
The article is a pathetic attempt by the left leaning msm to give Goff and his socialists losers some cheap publicity but the Woman's Weekly articles on John and his family are the kind of quality journalism that every decent New Zealander craves and deserves.
He's been sucking off the public tit for how long and he still needs a soppy puff piece to introduce him to the electorate? Says it all really.
Back to obscurity in December, where he belongs.
