That's the League vote gone...

The Herald has the story today of Mathew Ridge's brush with the Electoral Commission over a billboard at an Auckland business in which he has an interest. Does this look like an electoral advertisement to you?

But the more interesting bit comes further down the story; check this out (with our emphasis added):

Ridge said yesterday the ad was just a parody. "It's just a bit of fun. I think anybody that's got half a brain will see that 'hey look, it's tongue-in-cheek'."

He said it wasn't meant to be "Don't vote for Labour" though he added that if it doubled as that he would be quite happy "because I wouldn't vote for Labour anyway".

The campaign was devised by Rascals advertising.

That has to be more bad news for Phil Goff. The reception that John Key has been accorded over the last couple of weeks at RWC2011 matches suggests that National has the rugby vote, but Labour's always backed itself to take the League vote.

But this week alone, Sir Peter Leitch has endorsed John Key (to hate-filled comments on left-wing blogs), and now Ridgey's saying that he won't be voting Labour either.

Who WILL be supporting Labour on 26 November?

Looks like an election hording to me.

It may well do Murray.
But it does not resemble an election hoarding.

If the election result is home and hosed Inv2, as you frequently suggest - and clearly it's going to be a massive land-slide in favour of John Key, Phil Goff will be lucky to attract even one vote from all of New Zealand, according to the polls, why do you 're-discover' the news that Key will fly in every time something like this comes along with the astonishing news that Key is going to win by a million miles?
It's quite odd. Do you forget in between events, start to doubt, have second thoughts?
Key's got it by a country mile Inv2, every single person in New Zealand either wants him as their lover or as their god. Relax a little! Let it flow.

Now I'm convinced Robert; you HAVE been drinking! Was it the Worcester berries?

The love from John's eyes, Inv2.
I am, like you, smitten!

RG - let me assure you that I for one do not want John Key as my lover.
Bronagh however could be a different proposition.

BTW I am not sure if I have told you this before but since MMP came in National has never had my party vote but on two occasions Labour got my electorate vote.

I had no idea "Ridgey" held such sway with his political nous?? Are you saying Labour have lost the League vote because they will blindly follow him and the "Mad Butcher", or that they are representative of the average Kiwi League fan, both scenarios I personally doubt.

Pity Matthew didn't explicitly say who he was voting for, I'm thinking Greens :)

Ha!
All of us, out-flanked by Suz.

Hujlich, Banks, Brash, Key, McCully, Wong, Bishop Tamaki, Epsom, Ohariu, McClay, English...
Tell you what, with the company the NACTs keep they're welcome to Ridge. He's a dork. Like Lhaws. In fact, arent those two ex-lovers, the same way hujlich and Banks are? And INV2 and Key?

@ Suz; seriously (and this was a light-hearted post) I don't know that Matthew Ridge would hold all that much sway. The Mad Butcher on the other hand; hugely popular man of considerable mana (with a small m), and potentially a person able to influence.

@ Anon ; what the heck has Bishop Tamaki to do with the Nats? Nothing, I hope!

Well said suz - if it was Marc Ellis it would be a different story.

Yes - I think league fans will follow the Butcher to National in droves. As I said before - they prefer his sausage to Labours KFC.

Only those whose income is stolen from the top 5% of successful Kiwis: bennies, bludgers, wffers, civil sercunts, teachers, etc etc etc.

In short: only those people who should not be allowed a vote due to the massive conflict of interest.

No representation without taxation!

EITHER Vote for the government OR get money from the "government" (really from other citizens).

I for one am NOT of the opinion that the Nats are a dead cert. Not because they don't deserve another go during the worst worldwide economic period in 60 years or so BUT there is NO alternative. The Greens will send us to the wall, Mana to civil war and Labour, dear god no.
The Greens are a fair weather party full of weirdo’s
