Breaking news...

There's been a significant earthquake near Raoul Island, north-east of New Zealand. And a tsunami advisory has been issued.

It's early days yet, and it will hopefully come to nowt. But the Japanese and Boxing Day tsunamis are still fresh in our consciousness, so it's best to be aware.

Watch this space; we'll update with any news.

UPDATE: Here's the latest from Civil Defence...

UPDATE II: The tsunami advisory has been cancelled; good news for the Rena salvors!

TVNZ has just said that the warning's been cancelled, but I'll wait til the Civil Defence website records it before updating the post.
