It's Friday again, and a long weekend beckons. For our friends in the Hawkes Bay, it's an even longer weekend being the province's Anniversary Weekend; lucky them!
So anyway, that means it's time for the Friday Forum; a place for general chat about whatever's pushing your buttons this morning, and we know that some people have buttons that get pushed more than others!
Welcome aboard; have your say; all we ask is a modicum of respect for one another's viewpoints. After all, it'd be a boring old world if we all saw things the same way. The floor is yours....

Let's link to Lindsay Mitchell. She's from the Right and must have something valuable to say this morning.
Why yes, she does!
"DPB numbers - highest September quarter ever
Latest September quarter figures show DPB numbers standing at 114,147. No other September quarter has ever surpassed that number."
Goodness!
Way to go John Key!
http://lindsaymitchell.blogspot.com/2011/10/dpb-numbers-highest-september-quarter.html
(btw Inv2 - "link-whoring" as you like to say, only applies if people are linking to their own site as self-promotion)
No issue with links on THIS post Robert; it is, after all, a free debate, and people will choose whether or not to follow them.
Great!
How about some discussion about National's record deficits and record spending then?
http://blog.labour.org.nz/index.php/2011/10/21/graph-of-the-day-4-spending-and-the-deficit/
Good idea, Bob. Let's do that. Howzabout we immediately stop all corporate bail-outs, all welfare and close down all but the truly essential government departments (shut down anything ending with "Affairs" for a start). Then let's get rid of morons like Nick Smith and his eco-tard fascists from Parliament, get out of the way of businesses and entrepreneurs, and let kiwis do what those who flee overseas do very well.
That's what I would call a good start.
Care to have another shot at answering this from a previous thread Robert?
"Joining invisible dots again?
First you say
"HALF of those who voted for Key last time, saying they won't vote for him this time!!!"
Then you say
"just over half of those who backed the party in 2008, 50.3 percent, believe it could have done more to prevent oil spilling from the ship and polluting the environment."
So which is your story?
Are half not going to vote for him this time, or are half just disappointed in the oil spill cleanup? "
You see your first reply was not even close to providing facts, so I am giving you a chance to try again, and to try harder this time.
As well as invisible, your dots must be imaginary too.
I can see a Paint by Numbers set is going to be a waste in your Xmas stocking.
Re Lindsay Mitchell Bob.... You will note that every other benefit number is down and an overall reduction of 10,000 from September last year. DPB is for so many a lifestyle choice and in many instance that choice is now spreading into its third generation. It clearly requires drastic action
Gannt - your ideas are far too moderate for me - I want action and I want it NOW!
Moist (and getting moister under the collar by the sound of your increasingly sweaty comments) - I could take you by the hand and walk you through where I recanted my first statement, and provided the example I'd mistakenly seized upon, but that'd make you look silly. Read before you flail about, Moist. It'll save us a lot of trouble cleaning the froth from our screens.
Jeff - tell your sad story to Lindsay - she clearly has a problem with the DPB numbers being at their highest level EVER under National.
"How about some discussion about National's record deficits and record spending then?"
Yes, how about it? How about the fact that the only way these numbers would have been better would have been under an ACT-lead or Libertarianz-led government.
The ole guntt guy full of idiocy, full of itself.
I say Keys and co are a disaster for this country.
They are inept and their followers are blind.
Some sort of cult like phenomenon.
Bit like xtianity. Or Mel Gibsons version of belief. An illness.
So Bob, you wanted a discussion about the record deficits (caused by earthquakes and by National's cowardice in not rolling back Liarbore's profligate spending agenda). I responded with a plan that will address not just the deficit but the on-going war against the society New Zealand once was.
And you respond like the idiot you are known to be. I'm not really surprised, just disappointed. That's what I get for trying to have a conversation with a Liberal, I guess.
Anonymous/Paws/Roger, I think you're right. Key (note: no "s") & Co *are* a disaster for New Zealand. Key & English are, in fact, inept. The devious, evil geniuses behind the havoc wrought by the Key administration are Finlayson and Joyce.
The problem is, Key remains the most popular Prime Minister in New Zealand's history. Not because he's any good - he's not - but because New Zealand is a one-party state.
Gannt - I'm a tremendous disappointment to you, I can see that. However, you misread my original post. I was not asking for discussion on the record deficit/record spending issue,I was simply offering up the link to a site where one was taking place. That's where, I suggest, you go to broadcast your outrageous views :-)
Incidentally, I largely agreed with your suggestions @9:46, and my response was tongue in cheek. You'r kinda touchy about such light-heartedness though, I noted.
Bob, you're not a tremendous disappointment to me. Anyone who attains adulthood (which I assume you have) and clings persistently to leftism is deserving of pity, rather than disappointment. They are generally less than fully developed and likely had very sheltered upbringings. I know this is a generalisation (which goes against my principles) but although not a universal truth, is what I've generally found. Apologies if it does not apply to you.
Also, my apologies for misunderstanding the point of your initial comment, I had assumed you were atempting to commence a conversation. Silly me.
Commencing a conversation with a Liberal will always be a waste of time and energy GG. It will inevitably circle back to its starting place regardless of how many times you make your point. Liberals are incapable of reasoned interaction to ideas that are in conflict with their own. Our Bob is a perfect example of this.
Gannt - now you know, and the air is clear. I welcome your pity, btw, and roll around in it as if it were catnip!
Moist - I'm slightly embarrassed when you describe me as 'perfect'.Please keep your adoration in check and for goodness sake, talk about something interesting! Inv2 doesn't go to the trouble of writing a blog, just to have it filled with your witterings!
How about the approaching 'third down-grade' - you up for that?
I see it's 'Gantt', my apologies. I also noticed you had a blog, but when I got there...
... You found the cupboard was bare.
I reserved the blog space, but don't have the time or energy to maintain my own blog. My friend KG has given me posting privileges on his blog - Crusader Rabbit. You probably wouldn't like it there.
Hmmmmmm....time and energy,eh! Three cheers for those who do have both!
You know, it's very odd! I have tried,on a number of occasions, to comment over at Crusader Rabbit, and I'm immediately blocked, with a stern message telling me so.
Why do you think that would be, Mr Gantt?
Read before you flail about, Robert. It'll save us a lot of trouble cleaning the froth from our screens.
I'd say this comment on policy over at Crusader Rabbit should cover it.
"Leftists/”progressives”/socialists are not welcome here. Pay for your own soapbox."
Could'nt be clearer than that, although I have noticed a regular lack of comprehension on your part.
That answers my question then, Moist, though it raises a few about Crusader Rabbit's (and Gantt's) belief in free speech. 'Fraid I'm less than impressed. What do you reckon about that,Moist? Do you support a blog havin a barrier to some members of the blogging community?
Seems you do! Like to suppress discussion, do you? hey! We could talk about this, Moist! Let's do it.
Does it make you appreciate the amount of slack you get cut here Robert? It should; you push the boundaries to, and often beyond the limit.
Just remember that other commenters are as much entitled to express an opinion as you are, even though you may not share it.
Nothing from you on the issue of freedom of speech then, Moist?
I suspected you'd run, hide and quiver from that one.
"Do you support a blog havin a barrier to some members of the blogging community?"
Do you? I notice how lefties love to cite Malcom Harbrow's "No Comments Allowed"
Slack, Inv2? You are forever deleting my comments, threatening me with 'yellow cards' and expulsion - yours is an absolute ban-fest of a blog, where I have to tippy-toe about, fearful of upsetting your delicate sensibilities!
Thank goodness for your short-term memory problem, Inv2, that allows me to begin again each morning, as if nothing had happened! Your old age and mental infirmity is a blessing, Inv2. To me anyway!
James - hell no!
I don't.
Not running, hiding or quivering Robert. More important stuff happening. I'm re-decorating and the paint is a'dryin. (A much more interesting past-time).
Fact is , I don't think Crusader Rabbit or GG give a flying f**k what you think of their comment policy. Nor I for that matter.
*Take no notice of what Moist is saying, Inv2 - he's been all morning, in a room filled with paint fumes! He'll recover as soon as he gets some fresh air.
"it raises a few about Crusader Rabbit's (and Gantt's) belief in free speech"
Free speech has nothing to do with it, but that comment provides an interesting insight into your perspective on property rights.
KG owns the Domain Name. He (and others) volunteer their time to provide content and keep the site maintained. It is his property, in much the same way as is the house he owns.
Fact is Bob, there are plenty of places on the 'net where Conservatives and Liberals can discuss and (dis)agree (thanks, INV). One of the many great things about Crusader Rabbit is that it's one of the few reserved just for the grown-ups.
So it's an exclusive club, Gantt?
That must be what you meant when you said I 'probably wouldn't like it there'.
Odd for you to be over at Keeping Stock then, where the hoi polloi gather, all smelly and opinionated. Why are you away from your gated intellectual community? Slumming it, are you, at KS?
I take it then, that you don't support free and open discussion.
