Christian Music Sunday - 13 November 2011

We don't get to do a lot of worship-leading these days, but this is one of our favourite songs when we do. It's a constant reminder of God's grace, and our fallibility.

We'll never achieve perfection this side of the grave, but our gracious God loves us anyway. And the words of the chorus of this simple song always help to keep us gounded:

Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands
Majesty, Majesty
Forever I am changed by your love
In the presence of your Majesty

Enjoy today, in the presence of His majesty!

Maybe I grew up in simpler times, when God was glorified in song using thunderous hymns backed by a pipe organ that would shake the roof.
Times have sure changed. Church music today, for me anyway, exhibits a certain blandness. Songs delivered in a strangled voice and with a tortured expression backed by electronic digitalized sound effects and a boom box bass line.

Here's something very simple, and to me anyway, uplifting. Not to mention the cute overload :-)

Headline act at my first Parachute Festival ~6yrs back. Superb performance and a spine tingling sermon on bones...

Did not mean to sound disrespectful. Wrong demographic I guess.

Different strokes for different folks MVL; after a number of years leading worship at a non-denominational church, my wife and I are now attending a very conservative mainstream church with a magnificent organ; the very music you described. And coming back to that was like a homecoming.

But I love the modern worship music; it was one of the things that helped me connect when I made a commitment to Christ. It got me involved in music again, even to the point of writing songs. I've seen Delirious live twice, both times at Parachute Festival (the second time was probably the one that Nellie refers to). They are a great live act, and if that style of music is what's needed for younger people to connect with God, then bring it on!

But the best thing of all it this; God is big enough to gift different people in different ways for the good of all!

No disrepect taken here. Aye, there's nowt wrong with a rousing rendition of a good old hymn in a wonderful old church (reminds me of my short time in the church choir back in the UK many years ago) and as IV2 says whatever it takes to connect. I've got a foot in both camps on the music front, both leading to the same door!
