The Friday Forum - 11 November 2011

It's Friday again, so the Friday Forum is once again open for business.

This is your place on the internet to rant, rave, vent your spleen, or exercise your hobby-horse. All that we ask is that you show a modicum of decency towards those who are doing likewise, even if they disagree with you.

The floor is, as it is every Friday here at Keeping Stock, yours...

I see that Bryce Lawrence's nomination (and presumed favouritism) for the Rugby Ref of the Year award has gone down like a cup of cold sick in SA.

Still, I suppose his performance removed the biggest threat to NZ taking the trophy, so perhaps it's deserved.

Staying with rugby, why is it that referees pedantically enforce the rules regarding straight lineout throws, whilst turning a blind eye to blatant feeding of the ball under the hookers feet at scrum time?

He was tied beneath the spreading Oak, hog tied so he couldn't move.

The big fellow in the black hat was just finishing the noose he was making out of some stout rope.

The others, also wearing black hats sat around drinking, looking over at him and laughing.

His only hope now was that his faithful companion would be able to fetch help in time.

The string section of the orchestra out in the darkness was just building nicely to a crescendo when out of the trees galloped three horses.

Two carried completely naked women, the third a grizzled Indian in buckskins.

The women carried on riding into the darkness followed closely by several, mostly now sans black hats, outlaws in hot and noisy pursuit.

Only two outlaws were left, two men from over Brokeback mountain way and they sat on a log staring into each others' eyes, oblivious to the mayhem around them.

The Indian reined in his horse and rode over to the tied man only for him to yell "No No Tonto, I said "Go fetch posse. Possie!""

JS - the reaction in NZ should be the same. Lawrence is incompetent!!

This is the first chance I have had to comment on the NZ/Zimbabwe test and specifically about two NZ players I hadn't seen previously who impressed me.

Firstly Williamson who looks a class test batsman and a man who should hold the No3 batting spot for a long time. He plays straight, knows where his off stump is and puts bad balls away.

Secondly Bracewell who I thought was most impressive. As they did not have a speed gun I am not sure how quick he is but I would guess around the 140 mark. He bowls a very good line, although was a tad short at times in the first innings, and makes batsmen play. He and Southee should provide a good core to NZ medium fast bowling for a number of years.
