The Labour leadership poll

Given that we're helpful sorts by nature, we thought we'd help the Labour Party with its democratic process of revitalisation.

Accordingly, we've instituted a poll whereby readers can select their preference for the leadership of the Labour Party. We'll collate the results when the poll closes in a week's time, and we'll send them to the powers-that-be in Labour.

A good government needs a strong opposition; that's fundamental to the process of democracy. So there's a serious side to this poll. Labour will get one shot at re-branding, because if they don't make the right decision this time around, it's not going to help the party's credibility closer to the 2014 election if they have to admit that they got it wrong.

A huge weight of responsibility will fall upon the new leader and his deputy. They will immediately become the faces of the Labour Party. Will they be faces with which we are too familiar, or will Labour have the audacity to vote for the likes of David Shearer who is untainted by the baggage of a previous term in government?

An interesting fortnight awaits as the candidates put themselves forward. Take this opportunity to have your say.

Silent t aka the Fiscal creep for my heart and Shearer for my head, he can provide sufficient camoflage for the high tax big welfare regime to return.
The smarmy arrogant prick with his oh so false Faux Bro talk and his toxic "greasy man in the blue suit (borders on anti semetic imo) to assist with a third term for Key.

Yeah, I reckon you need a "who's best for Labour?" and "Who do you want?" separately.

Answers Shearer and Cunliffe respectively for me as well.

I am in the `Who Cares' category.

Shearer if you mean which Labour candidate would be best for the country; Cunliffe if we are talking about who do I [as a national voter] want to see as Labour leader into oblivion.

New boy David Clark should throw his hat in the ring too, just so Labour have a greater choice of Davids.

David Cunliffe says there is a lot of backstabbing and dirty tricks going on, but all three Davids state they are the best of friends so the backstabbers must be some-one else. I think the leadership should be decided the same way Labour pick its candidates with Union Influence being the deciding factor. On that basis a FENTON/MALLARD ticket seems to fit the bill. On the other hand THE GAGGLE needs to be represented somewhere maybe CHAUVEL could connect up with someone appropriate.

please choose Silent T .. he is a shocker. Wouldn't commit to staying on beyond 2014 if not appointed Leader .. Parker and Shearer did.
Shearer would be my pick if I was a Labour member BUT he would have to get rid of at least a doz high up the list MPs and that won't happen

silent T also suggested the rumour of him being disliked come from a fellow contender
