A week of "hard Labour"

At Labour's belated campaign launch yesterday, Phil Goff promised a week of "hard Labour".

If this is an example of what Labour has in store, it's going to be a week like we've never seen before in New Zealand politics; and we don't mean that in a nice way.

This flyer was sent to Cameron Slater by a reader; check this out:

My correspondent emails:

A very ‘classy’ threat from Labour (see attached), it makes me wonder how do they get information about my child… and even if info is accessible, the use of it is rather inappropriate.

Inappropriate isn’t the word. Nasty is. So is creepy.

The correspondent asks a very good question; how DOES Labour get addresses to target specific groups; in this case solo parents? That's the first question that needs to be asked.

This flyer reminds us of a letter sent to state house tenants by the Labour Party prior to the 2005 election. Then, as is now, dire predictions were made; in that case the letter took the form of a fake eviction notice. In his report to Parliament for that year, the State Services Commissioner noted:

Eviction notices

The last issue I wish to raise is the unintended and complex consequences for State servants of actions taken during political campaigns. In this election period, the Labour Party sent fake "eviction notices" to several thousand individual State house tenants as part of a housing policy promotion. This action had two consequences for the State Services. Firstly, it raised trust issues as tenants were suspicious that a government agency had given their private information to a political party, and, secondly, Housing New Zealand staff had to manage calls from worried and scared tenants.

Housing New Zealand confirms that it did not release its tenants' mailing list. Labour Party president Mike Williams stated the party "constructed its own list" from publicly available information (New Zealand Herald, 10 September 2005). However, the outcome of this communication meant that Housing New Zealand call centre staff were placed in the potentially difficult predicament of managing calls from concerned tenants. Call centre staff were given guidance that they must remain neutral and not get into the position where they are discussing the pros and cons of various party policies on housing with tenants.

Labour may again have constructed its own list. But WINZ staffers will not appreciate the volume of calls that they are likely to receive in the next few days from people alarmed by what is a blatant misrepresentation of National's proposed reforms to the welfare system.

Polling as they do, Labour is desperate. It seems as though they will stoop to anything to discredit John Key and National. Their policies have gone down like lead balloons, and now the dirt is being thrown in the hope that some will stick. So much for this election not being about personalities.

And so much for the protestations of our Anonymous friend who last night rather ironically said "Just waiting for the smear and sensation to start... It's what the right excel at.".

So i was correct. The smears and nastiness from the right just got worse when it seemed that it couldn't be any more foul.. This is desperate right wing spin. Key being pleased Winston's support is dying off is nastier and creepier. The policy in the brochure is solid. You guys are really fearful of Winston to stoop to this level of faux outrage. Take a close look at your leader inv2 and then be sensible. Nasty vitriolic right is stooping to new lows.a source of oily and a Nat supporter offended? Puh leeeeze... You think we came down in the last shower. Go Winston!

And right on cue.... http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10767550

Fearmongering and bully tactics from John keys.

Please focus on policy like you said you would INV2. You are better than others aren't you?

Politicking NZ style has taken a sickening turn for nasty as Liarbour plumbs unknown depths this campaign. One that will be full on attack in 2014.

The sooner they are wiped from my voting card the better.

Rubbish pm. It's right wing smear and spin and you are too scared of Winnie to see it. Or else you are being dishonest.
Inv2 can you explain how this post makes you morally a better person? No? Really?

Watch the minions come and exhibit faux outrage...

Tea tapes affidavit looks good! Herald raided by police too... Keys police state and no one of his blind faithful care... Winnie likes it though!

Over the entire campaign I haven't seen one post about good policy from the Nats here. I think it is in the DNA of conservatives to be fearful and negative and see nasty things where they don't exist.

Why do you refuse to address the issue, and instead attack the messenger?

Labour has published a brochure which is based on a lie, and is designed to put the wind up solo parents. Are you happy with that? Do you excuse it because it's Labour doing it?

My outrage on this brochure is far from faux. I am outraged enough to be preparing a letter of complaint to the Electoral Commission. In the meantime, I want as many people as possible to understand the depths that the Left, as it seems NZ First supporters will plumb.

Thanks for setting my week off with a chuckle, Anon.

Waiting for the "sensation" from the Right, whilst characterising the execution of a search warrant at the Herald as a...wait for it...."raid".

Since when did anyone make an appointment for a raid?

I guess the old addage is true: If you want to know what to expect from the Left, look at what they're accusing the Right of doing..

Whoops; last sentence should read:

In the meantime, I want as many people as possible to understand the depths that the Left, and it seems NZ First supporters will plumb.

Actually Cath, I think Winnie is possibly the best choice of the whole damned corrupt bunch on offer. NZF would force the Nats back to the right where they should be, not camped in Liarbour's space. Pity the show pony Winston First can't be relied on once he gets into the arena.

Scared, never. He was my best pick or not vote at all, till the CP appeared. I am watching them with interest. Nats and ACT are definitely out of the equation based on their shocking lack of performance.

Inv2,
"Why do you refuse to address the issue, and instead attack the messenger?"

Your blog seems to have attracted a troll plague of biblical proportion since you banned the one-time-caller from that backwater in Southland. Manifest in many shapes, are you sure they're not all the same person?

@ PM; the person to whom you refer assures me that it's not him, and I accept his word as a gentleman does.

This is not only nasty material, it is deceitful material. As Cactus Kate pointed out it is factually incorrect.
The thing is that this vilifies parents like myself, where my wife returned to work when our children were 6 months old.

Clearly the trolls you've been infected with are die-hard Labour ideologues INV2, and part of the left's campaign to infest social media.

Looking forward to Saturday!!!

I find this blog overly serious and rather dull to be honest, PM of NZ is far more entertaining, like Winston.
Show pony Winnie cannot be relied on at all, and neither can that other show pony, Key. Corrupt, the lot of them. Yup.
