OPM addiction strikes again.

As I noted the other day with respect to the go-ahead for the HS2 white elephant, something strange happens to politicians as soon as they attain the treasury benches. They just can’t resist the urge to make a name for themselves by splashing the taxpayer cash. Is it an environmental ‘syndrome’, a communicable disease carried by civil service staff or some kind of dark-side of the political force? There’s a thesis in there somewhere.

But I digress. The purpose of this post is to note that the latest to succumb to OPM addiction is Michael Gove, who has obviously decided that reforming the education sector isn’t glamorous or exciting enough for him and has conceived a brain-fart of epic proportions, suggesting that the taxpayer buy Her Maj a new yacht to mark her jubilee.

Which party are you a member of Michael? Do you understand what ‘conservative’ is supposed to mean?

If anyone would like to collaborate, I think I’m going to apply for taxpayer funding, to start a treatment centre for politicians suffering from OPM addiction. I’m sure I can find one of them to sign it off.
