We lead; the world follows!

A week ago (last Thursday night to be precise) we posted a YouTube video of an amazing catch by Bevan Small and Michael Mason in Central Districts' HRV Cup defeat by Northern Districts.

A week is a long time in cyberspace; check this out:

An amazing cricket catch by Bevan Small and Michael Mason has already had a million hits on YouTube.

"Yes, we got a few hits, which is quite amazing because it's gone global. That's modern technology and how things go these days,'' former New Zealand seamer Mason said before Central Districts' HRV Cup Twenty20 match with Auckland at Colin Maiden Park today.

The pair have become the centre of international attention after the kind of dazzling fielding that cannot be rehearsed, in last week's eight-wicket loss to Northern Districts.

The players themselves are playing their celebrity status down, Small in particular; read on:

Mason admitted he "put in a Hollywood dive'' when he caught the ball from the 12th man's flick back before it touched the grass.

"Bevan did all the hard work. I gave him a call to let him know I was there but I'm not sure if he heard me or not,'' Mason said.

Small said he wasn't sure if he heard Mason but he was certainly aware he was there.

"If I did hear him it all went by pretty quickly.''

"It's only a piece of fielding. I'd rather be at the bowling crease, not carrying the drinks, so I'm not getting carried away,''

Now it would be remiss of us to claim to be the catalyst for this classic catch going viral across the cricketing world. But if you saw it here, you were very likely in the first few dozen people to view the latest internet sensation; we had the video up just a couple of hours after the action took place in real time. So we'll pat ourselves on the back for being leaders, rather than the followers that the rest of the world has been!

Sometimes being a cricket tragic isn't so tragic after all..

Thanks for that thought James; I'll tuck it away for future reference!
