Most golfers go to their graves without hitting a hole-in-one, but Val Sills got two within an hour - but it wasn't enough to rescue his "pretty poor" round on Saturday.
The 74-year-old holed-in-one on the fifth and ninth of the Northern Wairoa golf course in Dargaville while playing in the men's club day draw.
But Mr Sills, who plays off a seven handicap, left the greens frustrated at having shot a total of 86 on a course with a par 72.
"It wasn't a very good round altogether. I think it was pretty obvious right from the start that I wasn't concentrating very well."
Andy Blatherwick went around the course with Mr Sills and said his playing partner needed reminding of his achievement after the round.
"He said, 'I've had nothing today but eights and sixes'. And then one of the other groups said, 'And ones'."
Well done Val Sills; just a shame about those other 16 holes! But it begs the question; it's golf etiquette that if you score a hole in one, you shout for everyone on the course; so,if you get two in the same round, do you have to buy everyone a double?
