A TV3 comedian allegedly involved in an airport stunt that went wrong says he regrets taking part in it.
Pulp Sport star Ben Boyce was filming an episode for a new series of Wanna-Ben last September when a skit involving someone dressed in a fake pilot's uniform at Auckland Airport turned serious.
Six men from the show - Boyce, Bryce Casey, Andrew Robinson, Daniel Watkins, Craig O'Reilly and Gregory Clarke - were arrested and charged under the Civil Aviation Act for providing false information in an attempt to gain access to a secure area.
They pleaded not guilty. The charge faces a maximum of 12 months imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
We sense that a change in plea is in the offing, in light of this admission from Boyce; read on (with our emphasis added):
Boyce has spoken out about the incident ahead of a defended hearing later this year, telling Woman's Weekly he wishes he'd put more thought into the segment.
"In hindsight, it was a foolish decision to go to the airport. If only we had thought it through a bit more," Boyce said.
He admitted it had affected his family - he has two daughters - and his performance on the show.
"I was making a comedy show but suddenly nothing was funny anymore," he said.
Indeed; sometimes comedy isn't funny in the slightest. After all, who could forget the case of The Comedian, discharged without conviction and given permanent name suppression after admitting having committed an indecency on his own daughter whilst drunk. The reason given by the Judge for the lenicency was because The Comedian could "make people laugh". That wasn't funny then, and it still isn't.
Humour is in the eye of the beholder. Whilst we love a good laugh (often at our own expense), there's precious little amusement to be found in either of the cases described above.
DISCLAIMER: In response to a comment made on this thread, let us put one thing straight. Ben Boyce and The Comedian are NOT one and the same person. We apologise if this inference has been taken.

Never felt the need to comment on a blog before.
Read this though and thought 'what a sanctimonious dickhead tosspot' and just had to.
Do half the readers out there agree?
Being a bit hard on KS aren't ya liberalminora...? So he has no sense of humour....
Liberalidiota. - perhaps if you were able to think more laterally, and add 1 and 1, you may find that you wouldnt find much of what that so called comedian did funny either....
If liberalminora thinks that I'm being a "sanctimonious dickhead tosspot" for expressing my disgust at what The Comedian did to his daughter, it probably says more about him/her than it does about me; just sayin'...
Whether you find his show and antics is funny or not, the concept of the airport stunt was not the smartest idea they have had.
Having said that... "KeepingStock" you have essentially stated that Ben is The Comedian, you need to be a little more careful with your words - accuracy is important.
When you consider your position in the media and what your blog may represent, it is imperative that you present facts that are truthful. If I was to claim the story was about you, I'm sure that you wouldn't like it either...
Perhaps if KeepingStock actually was accurate in their blog
@ Anon (6.54pm) - I know the identity of The Comedian, and it most certainly NOT Ben Boyce. If that impression has been created, I hope that this is clarified.I will also add a disclaimer to the original post. Thanks for your comment.
