The father of convicted child rapist Raurangi Marino is in police custody charged with assaulting his partner.
He was arrested yesterday – a day after his son was jailed for 10 years for a brutal attack on a 5-year-old girl.
Mark Marino, 47, appeared in Taupo District Court yesterday charged with injuring with intent to injure his partner on January 28.
He entered no plea and was remanded in custody till his next appearance later this month when counsel will be assigned to the case.
It is understood a complaint was made to police against Marino when the alleged assault occurred.
Police investigated the complaint and arrested Marino in Turangi less than 24 hours after his son had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping the young girl in a Turangi holiday park on December 21.
This piece of news is barely surprising. But it certainly adds strength to the view that violence begets violence. That of course in no excuse for Raurangi Marino's actions on the night of 21 December. But for those to whom intergenerational family violence is an alien concept, it's one of a number of explanations.
It's time to break the cycle of violence, but how? That represents a huge challenge for New Zealand and for New Zealanders.

Maybe you should look at the Mothers background first!
I totally oppose the death penalty in any situation but I find great irony in the way a dog is usually treated after it bites a human being.
Usually dead before sundown with little regard for due process.
Before anyone says anything about man being a higher being I have never, in a lifetime around dogs working and pets, come across anything remotely approaching the behavior of Marino Jnr.
