Christian Music Sunday - 1 April 2012

Chruches around the world will celebrate Palm Sunday this morning, marking the start of Holy Week. It was on Palm Sunday that Jesus was cheered by the crowds as he made his triumphal entry to Jerusalem; by the end of the week, those same people were crying "Crucify him" to Pontius Pilate, who reluctantly obliged.

Matthew's Gospel records:

The disciples went and did exactly what Jesus told them to do. They led the donkey and colt out, laid some of their clothes on them, and Jesus mounted. Nearly all the people in the crowd threw their garments down on the road, giving him a royal welcome. Others cut branches from the trees and threw them down as a welcome mat. Crowds went ahead and crowds followed, all of them calling out, "Hosanna to David's son!" "Blessed is he who comes in God's name!" "Hosanna in highest heaven!"

As he made his entrance into Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken. Unnerved, people were asking, "What's going on here? Who is this?"

Matthew 21:6-10 (The Message)

Today's song brings to life a word of praise shouted by the crowd almost 2000 years ago, but in a modern context. It's a song we've used before, written by Brooke Ligertwood, better known in New Zealand by her maiden name; Brooke Fraser. When she's not touring, Brooke leads worship at the Hillsongs Church in Sydney, and she maintains a remarkable balance between her commercial music career and her church life.

So enjoy todays song, as Christians throughout the world embark on their most significant week of the year:

Have an awesome, blessed day!
