So; the hapless Blues battled to just their second win of the Super Rugby season last night, beating fellow cellar-dwellers the Cats by 25 to three. After six consecutive losses, Pat Lam and his team will be pleased, if not to have got the monkey off their collective back, to have at least had it release its grip around their throat.
But we can't help but wonder; how much different might the season have been had Piri Weepu's last-gasp field goal attempt in the season opener against the Crusaders not been charged down. We reckon that Pat Lam might be asking that question of himself as well, given that the Auckland Mafia seems poised now to replace him with John Kirwan.
