Crushing time

Even though she is no longer the Police Minister, Judith Collins has kept another pledge; Stuff reports:

The first car to be crushed under boy racer laws will be destroyed tomorrow.
Police minister Anne Tolley confirmed the punishment at Parliament's law and order select committee.
She said the car belonged to a "silly young man" who had been convicted of driving offences four times.
The crushing would take place in Lower Hutt.
National passed the Vehicle Confiscation and Seizure Bill in 2008 - and earned Cabinet minister Judith Collins the sobriquet "Crusher Collins".
The law aimed to cut out illegal street racing by requiring a vehicle to be destroyed after a third offence.
A spokesman for Tolley said further details about the crushing would be released this afternoon.

Another day; another promise delivered on. Let's hope that the deterrent effect of seeing Crusher Tolley deliver on Crusher Collins' promise will send a message to street racers that their behaviour is unacceptable.

And let's also hope that as they did in Canada, the crushing is videoed, and given widespread publicity. Street racers; you might wish to avert your eyes:

Well done to the Iron Ladies of National!

UPDATE: Stuff has just updated its story, and it has been revealed that in addition to the car to be crushed tomorrow, there are 116 street racers currently sitting on two strikes. Tomorrow's graunching, crunching conclusion may just be the first of many.

Hmmm - one every four years? I'll happily offer Ms Collins some advice on improved performance and productivity.......

I think you'll find it's more about the deterrent effect Robert.

Well, there you go then Robert. You're obviously in fear and dread of Mesdames Collins and Tolley and their car crushing machine. So will the street racers, when they see what the crusher does to one of their mate's pride and joy.

Removing the drivers from the vehicles before the crushing would appear to be the major flaw in the policy,
