It looks like a snapshot from Antarctica or some other frozen part of the planet.
In actual fact, it's an image from the Metservice webcam at Christchurch Airport at 11am this morning. The temperature there has reportedly just crept up to a balmy 0.7*C.
We're not quite sure what the black spot in front of the sun is, unless perhaps Venus decided to do an encore transit today for those who couldn't see past the snowflakes falling from the sky yesterday.
Keep warm down there folks; at least it sounds as things are slowly returning to normal after a chaotic day yesterday. Hopefully our resident cabbie Tinman will be back on the road today, and that the picturesque scenes will pull in some much-needed tourist dollars for the city.
