Asset Sale protests
We've heard that around 40 people marched in Wanganui today loudly declaring that Aotearoa is not for sale.
The city of Wanganui has around 44,000 residents. So today's protest represents less than 0.1% of the city's population.
Is it safe then to speculate that the other 99.9% of Wanganui's residents either don't have a strong view, or simply don't care if the government sells a minority stake in several SOE's? It certainly seems that way.
Actually, the reverse is probably true. For every person that actually took the time to protest, there were probably about another ten or twenty more who thought about it but didn't quite get there.
Polls are showing that this is a very unpopular policy with most New Zealanders.
I was collecting signatures for the petition in Invercargill today and had people queuing to sign. Around 100 signatures in a couple of hours was pretty good I thought. No mandate from the Deep South!
This is all about political agitators trying to destabilise the incumbent Government. The Green Party is active in organising marches and demonstrations, petitions, and much of the blog interference comes from them as well. These are important tactics for the left as their mainstream dialogue is too negative for most.

Do the maths mel; 20 times 0.1% comes to 2.0%. That still leaves 98%...
I agree with Mel. The polls say it all as well. Key is underestimating the people on this one, and will suffer for it in 2014.

The people are uninformed idiots....the SOEs are liabilities to the taxpaying....not assets....except maybe
....to the politicans as it gives them a reason to be.
0.1 % only showed up in Nelson to protest, 50 people showed up, thats it. Protest is a clear fail
Epic fail judge. Going to blame the weather are we? It was a nice day when you lot lost the election........
