It's just gone midnight in New York, according to timezonecheck.com - so that means that it's now the Fourth of July on the eastern seaboard of the United States at the very least.
We'd love to be in the USA on the Fourth of July sometime. It's a day when an entire nation stops to celebrate. Australia has managed to embrace Australia Day in similar style in recent years, but for us, Waitangi Day is still divisive for as many people as it is unifying.
So to our American readers, both here and there, our very best wishes for a day of celebration as you celebrate your Independence Day. And we send out a special shout-out to US Ambassador to New Zealand David Heubner, with whom we interact via social media from time to time. Doubtless the Embassy in Wellington will be marking the day in some special way, even if the weather isn't conducive to BBQ's, picnics and fireworks!
Happy birthday USA!
