We're on the road again today, en route to Auckland. This time though it really is by road, so at least we won't have delays at airports!
There will be some interruption to blogging over the next few days as we have some business and family engagements in the Big Smoke. There's also the small matter of finding a place to eat tonight where we might also be able to watch our beloved Hurricanes sneak an upset win over the Chiefs in Wellington, and qualify for the Super Rugby play-offs. We might even stay long enough to watch the Warriors as well. Any suggestions of a suitable venue would be warmly welcomed!

One of the hurdles for New Zealand Teams and also the Saffas is the intense Derby games faced when at home.
In spite of their seriously lesser level of quality in their 'home' games the Brumbies will likely still qualify for the finals from 7th place on the combined rankings.
The Chiefs could possibly be playing many of their finals games away as the Crusaders will likely be doing.
Following 20 years residing in the Canes territory where I kept my Red and Black eye patch, I am now a closet Canes supporter and got some pleasure from the recent game described as an upset but firmly seen in my biased mind as a travesty when Lawrence and his assistants missed one blatant and another suspect tries from obstructed run ins.
This support arises entirely from the treatment accorded Mark Hammett last year as he struggled to instill a more team oriented culture in the perenial underachievers. It seems to be working in spite of the dire predictions of the ignorant.
Sadly the chiefs season could just get a whole lot more difficult if Conrad's marauders cane them.
As an aside while refereeing anomalies are in my mind, did Kerr Barlow act entirely within the rules of playing the ball while off his feet preventing Ellis from placing the ball. My first impression was a penalty try and justice was done by Bryce Lawrence even if the double movement wasto be ruled to disallow the try until Whitelock promoted the ruck over the line.
I note the Referees boss has upheld the TMO decision but I am still confused even if my biased mind is happy with the outcome.
born in the Canes catchment area, living in the Chiefs. Who do I pick .. ummmm GO THE CANES.
That Conrad Smith is a bloody star, the backs version of one K Read. There is something about the Canes this year in that they have won games that they should have lost .. guts and determination can go a long way.
Hard to see a Hurricanes win tonight - Chiefs by about 10. They are a season or two away yet but I must say as someone previously disgusted with the Hurricanes I am impressed with the way Hammet is going about things.
I have said it before and I will say it again - a 100% fit Richard ahui is the best centre in NZ. It is a shame he seems to have `chalk' for bones and is so often injured.
We'll have to disagree on that pdm; Conrad Smith has week in week out been the best Super 15 player in NZ this season, and is IMHO the best centre of his kind since Bruce Robertson.
just checked the Herald and yes, I wasn't dreaming last night .. brilliant
