Ken Loeffler was an American basketball coach who coined this phrase:
There are only two kinds of coaches -- those who have been fired, and those who will be fired.
Kiwi rugby league coach Stephen Kearney knows the truth of that, having moved from one category to the other as The Australian reports:
STEPHEN Kearney wanted to wait until after tomorrow night's game against his former club Melbourne to confirm that his troubled two-year tenure at Parramatta was over.In typical Eels style, however, his plans were short-circuited by a leak from within the club.Instead, Kearney will this morning announce his departure, ending a torturous time for him and the Eels, and leaving assistant Brad Arthur to coach the side for the rest of the year until a replacement can be found. The Australian understands the Eels have already begun the search for a coach, with NSW's Ricky Stuart at the head of the list. However, Stuart is believed to be reluctant to join the club.
Keraney's tenure of the Eels job has been pretty unspectacular, with the side having become the easy-beats of the NRL for the second season in a row.
