So; apparently, the opposition parties reckon that the Government is softening up Kiwirail for sale; the Herald reports:
Opposition parties say job cuts at KiwiRail are a step towards its sale, but the Prime Minister has assured New Zealanders the troubled company will not go on the block.
So we can't help but wonder; given that sales require two things - a willing vendor and a willing purchaser - who in their right mind would want to buy Kiwirail?
In the meantime, Kiwirail is costing us an arm and a leg, at a time when that money could be far better spent. Thanks a bunch Michael Cullen.

Strange how every time National makes any move to cut government expenditure, Labour cries it is a sneaky move towards privatization. By this yardstick it is hard to see how Labour would reduce ANY government spending. Not surprising no sensible New Zealander will vote for them...
The question is, would it cost less to pay to have someone take it off our hands, than it bleeds the taxpayer every year?
What JS said.
