There's a fair bit of banter in the blogosphere, and sometimes it goes a bit too far. But check out this post from WhaleOil:
The Standard’s attack by several authors against both John and Josie Pagani has reached new depths, and now involves death threats.Take a look at this comment from regular contributor Colonial Viper:“Time to put Zarak and Gaeta back in their place.” Sounds innocuous unless you are a sci0-fi fan and follow Battlestar GalacticaHow is that not a death threat? From Wikipedia:“After regaining control of Galactica and defeating the mutiny, Adama has Zarek and Gaeta executed by firing squad.”Ummm, too far? I think so. There really is no other way to read that. The only way that Zarek and Gaeta were put in their place was execution.
This is way beyond the pale. What has happened of course is that John Pagani has said that he would rather read Kiwiblog than The Standard, and Josie Pagani has responded publicly to sexist attacks against her by Standard commenters. For that, Colonial Viper whoever he/she is wants the Paganis executed.
We weren't overly enthusiastic when the Law Commission announced proposals early in the week for dealing with cyber-bullying. But Colonial Viper has strengthened the Law Commission's case quite significantly.

Get real. Why do you get yourself worked up into such a faux lather over a metaphor? Do you take everything so literally, or is it just where you see petty points to be scored?
And it's a wee bit rich to squawk "beyond the pale!" while linking to Slater isn't it? Ever condemned his "work" as "beyond the pale"? No? Why would that be I wonder.
As a matter of fact, yes I have, and more than once.
So you condone Colonial Viper's interesting choice of analogy then, do you? Why would that be I wonder?
Only someone with an agenda and an anti-Standard obsession would pretend to take it literally and then pretend to get so worked up about it. This is especially the case when your source is someone as vile as Slater, who does far worse and has never been called on it by you. In fact you go out of your way to fawn over him.
Just asking for a bit of honesty as to your motives, that's all.
I am with Edward on this one KS.
Slater has proven himself to be a nasty hypocrite of enormous proportions. Considering i have had to endure two years worth of cyber bullying and death threats thanks to his immoral behaviour - linking to Slater while declaring someone else's behaviour is "beyond the pale" had me losing all interest in what you were actually referring to at The Standard.
If you are wanting to point out the bad behaviour of someone - don't hold Slater and his posts up as a some kind of moral benchmark.
We've all done stuff that we aren't proud of Jackie, and for which we have been or will be called to account. Sometimes though, you have to look beyond the messenger, and actually address the message. Do you support an implied death threat?
@ Edward - my motives are the same as they were when I notified DPF of a similar comment on his blog this week by someone who called themselves fish-boy. DPF promptly deleted the comment which was along the lines of someone should just hurry up and die.
Let's by all means have free and robust exchanges. But implying that someone should be executed by firing squad is, as the post title suggests, beyond the pale.
Not one of your better efforts KS. It's hard to get outraged over the use of the names of fantasy characters loved by space cadets. But that isn't the only problem, you showing offence is disproportionate to the reality that you are taking enjoyment from all this - making a mountain out of a molehill might be easier. Tut tut.
"the same as they were when I notified DPF of a similar comment on his blog this week"
Snitch.
Not at all Golden Bell; that's how DPF operates. He doesn't have time to read all the comments left at Kiwiblog, as relies on people to give him a heads-up to anything that's out of line; which I did.
This is on his Demerits page:
If you see a comment that you think is highly abusive, then feel free to report it by sending an e-mail to kiwiblogabuse@gmail.com. The e-mail should include a link to the specific comment (if you click on the date/time of the comment, this will bring it up in the address bar).
I do not have time to read every thread, let alone every comment. So your help in maintaining standards is appreciated. I also do not have time to respond to every complaint – they will all be considered, and you’ll see below whether or not I decide demerits are warranted. Generally I won’t respond individually.

What a childish set of comments. Slaters worse, no so & so's worse.
I totally agree KS. It's a pattern this year which I have documented myself. If you're too capitalistic then it's off to the gallows with you. They soft pedal but it still smacks of violence against women:

What's childish, Monique, is IV2's allegation that death threats were made. Have you gone to the police yet? They should be investigating these extremely serious allegations. They carry a period of imprisonment you know! You could really get a win here!
What other interpretation can you put on the reference to Zarak and Gaeta Edward? FFS; even other commenters at The Standard have joined the dots and criticised it!
As for a complaint to the police; that's for the Paganis, and I hope that they do.
No, you're the one who says it's a death threat. The only possible way it can be interpreted you say. That's a crime so serious it shouldn't be up to the victims to take it to the police. In the interests of public safety you should do it immediately. Why haven't you? You're being irresponsible in your inaction.
Been to the police yet? If not, I can only assume you weren't serious about that being a death threat, in which case you're just playing silly games.
