Heading home...

We've had a wonderful week on the Sunshine Coast. It's been extremely relaxing, which was the whole purpose of the exercise. But sadly work beckons, and we'll be travelling most of today, with the occasional food and/or coffee stop thrown in for good measure.

We hadn't visited the Sunshine Coast before, but it's fair to say that we will be back. For a relaxing holiday for those without children, it leaves the Gold Coast for dead. The beaches are great, there are walkways all along the coast, great cafes and restaurants, and friendly locals.

But above all the weather's been spectacular. We've barely seen a cloud since arriving, and although there was a cool south-west wind blowing yesterday (cool by local standards), the temperature still nudged up to around 20*C, and the sun shone all day. The locals were complaining about the cold and rugging up, but if that's winter in these parts, we want more!

We're already planning a similar winter retreat in 2013, but perhaps for a couple of weeks. We'd just reached chill-out stage yesterday, and it was time to pack for the return journey. Another week of sun, sleep and seafood would have been the icing on the cake, and that'll be the plan next time we come over here.

Because we're travelling, blogging may be a bit patchy today, but we'll see if we have a spare moment at any stage. We'll be back home some time on Sunday, as long as Mt Tongariro doesn't have another petulant outburst!
