We're in Queensland. And the Courier Mail bemoans our opening success last night:
It's one thing to get flogged by the Brits at these Olympics. But how does getting lapped by New Zealand sound?
We reckon it sounds pretty darned good! Congratulations to Hamish Bond, Eric Murray and Mahe Drysdale; Olympic Champions.
UPDATED (Sunday 5/8/2012) - Still no more golds for Australia, and the commentators on Channel Nine are really struggling to talk things up.
They were bitterly disappointed when the Aussie woman triathlete "blew the field apart" only to be run down and finish third. They talked up their women's pursuit team, only for them to come fourth. They talked up sculler Kim Crow, both in the singles and doubles, and though she medalled in both, you would have thought that she was winning by Bond/Murray margins.
We will be far more restrained in our criticisms of New Zealand rugby commentators now, having seen what biased cheerleading can be!!

Probably not such a danger in Maroon Country, plenty of expats but not a great idea to wear a flag with the four crimson stars of the southern cross in some places.
Feral response must be close to the surface although I detect a shift to celebrating medal success as opposed to wailing about Gold Failure in their media.
But the Aussies should be getting better.
Aren't we shipping our best and brightest across the ditch?
Or are we just keeping thegood 'uns?
And why Brits might struggle on the water -any water

Quintin, I seem to rememder Rob Muldoon saying something like, people who shift to Australia lift the IQ of both countries.
Perhaps it is also the same with sports.
