So; Labour list MP Charles Chauvel doesn't think that organisations should comment on issues which may or may not directly concern them.
So we can't help but wonder this; did Mr Chauvel ask to see the credentials of those organisations opposing the partial privatisation of state assets? After all, organising and sponsoring a petition to call for a Citizen Initiated Referendum is hardly the core business of the New Zealand University Students' Association, is it now? Sheesh; the assets which the government proposes to partially sell down have nothing whatsoever to do with tertiary education.

Come on, KS, it has everything to do with the Students Asociation. They are probably the only national organisation that represents the voices of our younger generation and they rightly object to having this government sell off assets that would provide value to this country in the future. It is our young who will suffer the loss of dividends over time while a quick buck is made in the short term.
I bet there are many economics students who are struggling to understand the rationale behind this bizarre garage sale of our family jewels.

Um, no. Where did you get that idea?
Thanks for illustrating both my point and Charles Chauvel's double standard bsprout. I hoped that some early commenter would, and am obliged to you!
The bottom line is this; Right to Life NZ has as much interest in the same-sex marriage debate and the NZUSA has in the MOM debate. So why does Chauvel accept one organisation's opinion without question, whilst demanding that the other show him evidence of their right to comment?
Spot the double standard now?

He doesn't you and the hysterical RTL crowd have made that bit up.
What does a Students Association ever have to do with National Body politics? im sorry but what?
They do not represent a youth voice what so ever as it is usually dominated by the Labour Party and their buddies who use it as the candidates college of choice to get ready for life in the Labour Party.
When you get turn outs to vote at student elections of less than 15% and try and claim a mandate from that then something is seriously wrong.
the MOM has completly nothing to do with students associations what so ever. It is highly rich, especially the Auckland University students Association complaining about Asset Sales yet is prepared to sell of it's own assets eg Jamie Lee Ross Electorate office and reinvest that in other assets.
Bit rich don't you think

No it isn't. Man you guys are on a roll with the nonsense today. Overdo the party pills on the weekend did we?
Didn't see Charlie writing to grey power about their opposition to asset sales.
Imagine if Miss Collins wrote to some group asking them to dissist from commenting on the alcohol reform bill, front page outrage.
Agree wholeheartedly David. If this was a Nat trying to censor an interest group, there would be hell to pay.
Keep repeating your untruth Edward; you'll believe that it's the truth eventually

That seems to be your tactic, yes. No same person will share your belief though.
Edward: try telling that to over 1 million kiwis who voted for National at the last election
