The spirit of the late Seve Ballesteros is hugely evident over the Medinah Country Club in Chicago right now. The European team has completed an incredible comeback to retain the Ryder Cup with a 14 1/2 to 13 1/2 victory over the United States.
The USA started the day with a seemingly unassailable 10-6 lead, but could only win three of the twelve singles matches, and halve another. Europe has made one of the greatest final day comebacks in Ryder Cup history.
Seve Ballesteros was an icon of the Ryder Cup; fiercely competitive, passionate and with a never-say-die attitude. His death last year robbed the golfing world of a true great. But his legacy has lived on at Medinah this year through his great friend, Team Europe captain Jose-Maria Olazabal. It has been sport at its absolute finest.
We'll have reaction later, but first we'd better do some work. It's been quite some morning!

A remarkable come-back and victory.
Reading the media reports it was a stunning turnaround by the Europeans.
Well done to them for not letting what appeared to me to be an insurmountable lead faze them.
The coments, at least the ones I read, from the US golfers at the end were very gracious as well.
Now were are those golf bats of mine.
A never before seen comeback in Ryder Cup history. A wonderful tribute to Seve who I remember meeting and watching at St Clair in the 70's (77 I think as that is one of the few years I made the final cut).
I'm surprised that you haven't made mention of another remarkable performance of Lydia Ko in winning the individual trophy at the World Amatuer Teams Championship in Turkey.
Unfortunately the team only finished 5th but a wonderful effort by the country's current best golfer. How can they got giver her Sportsperson of the Year award now!
Great comment Teletext. Lydia ko's achievement ( and her Halberg prospects) will be discussed tomorrow.
But the Ryder Cup was sport at it's absolute finest; filled with drama, emotion and some wonderful golf. Huge raps to both teams for a magnificent three days of theatre.
IMHO, Tiger is destroyed. He didn't win a single game and crumbled at the first sign of heat.
Luke Donald hit it like a boss all week and Rory, well.... what can one say?
I suspect Europe will hold the Ryder for some time yet...they have a bunch of players who know how to win down the final stretch.
