The Presidential debate

As we worked yesterday afternoon, the TV was on in the background tuned to the US Presidential Debate. Mitt Romney may be trailing Barak Obama in the polls, but he outshone the President by some margin.

Obama looked uncomfortable, and his oratory was hesitant and stilted. He had the air of a man who would rather have been someplace else; not entirely surprising, given that it was his 20th wedding anniversary. But it was a lukewarm performance by the President.

On the other hand Mitt Romney came across as confident, and on top of his game. Behind in the polls, Romney needed to deliver, and did.

CNN's scientific poll of committed voters after the debate scored it as a crushing 65% to 27% win to Romney. Is that enough to get the GOP's campaign back on the rails? Time will tell, but the Republicans have certainly wrested back some of the initiative from the incumbent Democrats.

One debate does not a President make.

Quite so Pete, but Romney's challenge would have been over before it began had he not fronted yesterday. He breathed life into what has been a lacklustre campaign so far.

I agree, if Romney had performed as badly as Obama his campaign would probably have been terminal. This gives him a chance to have a decent crack.

I've never been a fan of Obama's speaking style, but he at least needs to rev up what he's got.
