We can't help but wonder

Russel Norman will be glowing with pride that the Police has agreed to have a look at the allegations that the GCSB unlawfully spied on Kim Dotcom.

But Norman was initially pleased that Justice Paul Neazor was required by the PM to investigate the issue when it became public knowledge last week. He was far less pleased when the report didn't say what he wanted it to say, and accused Justice Neazor of being conflicted. He was skewered on this point on Breakfast on Friday.

So we can't help but wonder; having sought a police investigation himself, is Russel Norman going to bleat about the Police being conflicted if the outcome of the investigation is not to his satisfaction? Watch this space.

John Key is right; this is far more a political stunt than any quest for transparency and accountability by Dr Norman. If accountability was his goal, he would have asked the Police to investigate vandalism by people connected to the Green Party just before the 2011 General Election.

Dr Norman seem to be channelling Penny Bright by saying something is acceptable only if he agrees with the outcome.
If he doesn't agree then the outcome is wrong and needs to be reviewed.

This is excellent from Norman. the Greens are showing that they have the balls to lead the country and are preparing to do just that. This bold and proactive move from Russel Norman is something the right will have to get used to. he's going to take down this dodgy Government and lead New Zealand into its now beckoning Green future.
Calling in the cops on Key was just Stage One.
Strap yourselves in, Keeping Stock and co.
It's going to be a fun ride!

The police might fudge this investigation because it might make them look like Keystone Kops, but it will be ammunition for the Opposition in the House and for the country's cartoonists and bloggers for weeks and weeks. Mr Key was terribly tetchy in TV3 this morning. His little planet is crumbling away from beneath him.

"he is known for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor" assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men".

Yep, he would be the Gween Party Co-Leader in today's world

I wonder how much of a story this would be if Mr Key had put a bit more effort into ensuring the GCSB stayed within their remit. Not much of a story, would be my guess. What was he doing instead? All that popular asset selling stuff and encouraging tourism.

Key's been caught.
He knew perfectly well about dotcom.
Why did he lie?
Why has he gone to Hollywood?

We can be as outraged as we like, but that hasn't stopped the PM brazening it out. The police are following his example with respect to Ofcanz Deputy Director, Grant Wormald's "inconsistent" testimony under oath. The only thing he will understand is a hit in the polls.

Do Kiwis who support the National party care about due process and the rights of the accused? I'm sure some of them do. But if I had a $1 for every time a National voter told me: "I don't know much about politics. I don't really follow it." I'd be almost as rich as Kim Dotcom. PM John Key is relying on the intellectual inertia of his low-information voters to win through. It's worked for him so far.

Farce it may be - but it also has some very disturbing elements. Not least is the erosion erosion of civil liberties under the NATZ. But equally serious is the lack of political oversight and management of government agencies and the accumulating evidence that those same agencies - the SIS, GCSB, and the Police are turning feral.

The fact that one Mr Plod was prepared to perjure himself should strike fear into the heart of every New Zealander. The fact that the Commissioner of Police is now expressing 'confidence' in his officer should be ringing very loud alarm bells.

The inability of Neazor to produce anything like a useful report amounted to little more than a cover-up - and now we have another bureaucrat-led 'investigation' which almost certainly has less to do with exposing the alleged incompetency involved than with ensuring that such incompetency is never again exposed to public gaze.

Surpassing all though are the blatant lies and obfuscation which have emerged from the NATZ regime. The lack of honesty and courage on the part of Key is breath-taking. His willingness to treat New Zealanders with clear contempt is outrageous.

Yep, Dotcom made Key look like Hollywood's "monkey on a stick, organ grinder" alright. At our expense and liberty, though, seems democracy has gone right out the window under these new barbarians in parliament. Cannot remember a more corrupt, lying government.

The story is much bigger now, going far beyond Dotcom. This is now about intelligence & security agencies that consider themselves above the law, the accountability of our politicians & civil servants, and the civil rights & liberties of all NZ residents.

The PM & other Government Ministers, the Solicitor General, Crown law, the Police and the GCSB are all implicated in this fiasco. There are too many unanswered questions, and a shocking lack of accountability.

One mistake might be passed off as human error, but as the bungles mount, and calls for independent inquiries & police investigations are repeatedly dismissed, this looks more like a concerted effort to cover up systemic corruption at the highest levels.

Now John Key is deriding anyone who criticises his handling of this affair a *conspiracy theorist*, claiming they live in *fantasy land*.

His mocking derision is unacceptable for a Prime Minister. People have very real concerns about the servile obeisance John Key and his Government display towards the U.S.

If people are just *conspiracy theorists* living in *fantasy land* for having concerns, then he should allow a full & independent inquiry to allay those concerns.

Remember, Key has answered questions on notice – answers for which he would have had to find out exactly when he was briefed and what he was briefed on – in the house, giving precise dates.

He can only have been lying. There is no other possibility.
