Hi ho, hi ho...

It's back to work for us today. The Christmas/New Year break has come to an end far too quickly, and whilst the break has been therapeutic, another week would have made it even more so. But that's not to be.

Getting up early has been a shock to the system. And our mood this morning isn't helped by the abysmal New Zealand batting display at Newlands in Cape Town last night about which we'll have more to say later in the day.

We're actually looking at the 2013 business year with a degree of optimism. Whilst the year will be primarily focused on consolidation, we have a couple of opportunities waiting in the wings which will help us to take things to the next level. The last three or four years have had plenty of challenges in a difficult economic environment, but we believe that the worst is over.

Employing staff is both a privilege and a huge responsibility. We are only too aware that the decisions we make don't just affect us, but they also affect those whom we employ. If we get things wrong, the consequences for others will be pretty significant. That weighs heavily at times, and is one of the reasons why we are getting assistance to make our businesses more robust and enduring.

So; back to the coal-face we go. If you're in the same boat as us this morning, chin up; two days of work, and it's the weekend!
