Golfers on the PGA Tour play right through the year. The Tour kicks off in Hawaii in the first week of January each year, and early-season locations are chosen based on their fitness in winter weather; Florida, Arizona and California are early-season favourites.
So no-one really expected this, during the first round of the Accenture WGC Matchplay Championship at Dove Mountain in the Arizona desert:
Play has been suspended for the day after more than an inch of snow settled on the course, and the greens turned to ice. The world's 64 best golfers sought sanctuary in Dove Mountain's clubhouse.
Cacti and snow; yep; that's Global Warming for you!
