We blogged yesterday about a looming showdown between new Labour leader David Cunliffe, and former Shadow Leader of the House Trevor Mallard.
When we blogged that Mr Mallard was noticeably absent from a Labour caucus meeting, we thought it was just a routine, run-of-the-mill Wellington one. How wrong could we be? Check this out:
The caucus meeting is actually a caucus retreat in Dunedin, and when David Clark says that the "entire #Labour caucus" is there, he's not telling the entire truth. Whether Trevor Mallard has chosen to stay away, or whether he has been asked not to attend is unknown, but Cameron Slater reports that Mr Mallard was seen cycling in Wellington yesterday, and Mallard himself corrects Mr Clark.
So Trevor Mallard is clearly on the outside looking in. It's fair to say that Mr Mallard is not the kind of chap to take this kind of thing lying down, so we would suggest that this story is just starting to sprout legs.
